CTE Spearheads GURO 21 Orientation

The West Visayas State University College of Education through the Center for Teaching Excellence have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) with Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, Regional Centre for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) last April 8, 2015.

In connection with the reform agenda of DepED and in order to enhance the teachers’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values on teaching and learning in the new century, SEAMEO INNOTECH recently launched the first flexible learning course for school teachers termed as GURO21 (or Gearing Up Responsible and Outstanding Teachers in Southeast Asia for the 21st Century). GURO21 is a menu of flexible learning courses (i.e., modularized online lessons) that aims to address the teachers’ needs in relation to the technological advances and changing educational trends in the 21st century.

The course aims to develop and enhance Southeast Asian teachers’ facilitating skills in order to effectively play their role as learning leaders of the 21st century in a knowledge-based economy. It covers the following modules:

  1. Equipping Teachers with Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, and Values for the 21st Century; and
  2. Facilitating 21st Century Learning

The face-to-face Learning Needs Assessment (LNA) and Orientation will be held on May 21, 2015, from 9am-4pm at the WVSU Learning Resource Center.
