Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting

The Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting Curriculum is competency-based, skill-based and community-oriented. Qualified Broadcasting students should be able to apply knowledge learned and exhibit desired behaviors in situations when such are needed.  The curriculum is also designed to develop skills necessary in the production of mass communication materials and likewise provides for teaching-learning opportunities based on exposure to the community.

Objectives of the Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting

Instruction
1.    To develop and strengthen existing Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting curricular program.
2.    To further improve the faculty profile.
3.    To continually produce highly competitive Broadcasting Graduates.

Research
1.    To upgrade faculty and students’ research competencies and conduct at least two communication researches every school year to be presented in conference, fora, etc.
2.    To strengthen linkages with private and public organizations/agencies in conducting, presenting, and utilizing communication researches.
3.    To publish research outputs in journals and other related publications.

Extension
1.    To upgrade training of faculty and students in conducting extension activities.  
2.    To collaborate with and adopt a community for extension activities.
3.    To expand linkages with private and public organizations/agencies in conducting extension activities.

Production
1.    To conduct training in highly specialized area of broadcast communication
2.    To produce useful broadcast materials
3.    To explore other possible activities which may help generate additional income for the college

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism

Bachelor of Science in Development Communication

The Bachelor of Science in Development Communication Curriculum is competency-based, skill-based and community-based.   Qualified Development Communication students should be able to apply knowledge learned and exhibit desired behaviors in situations when such are needed.  The curriculum is also designed to develop skills necessary in the production of broadcast and audio-video materials, and social communication campaign materials and programs. Likewise, this curriculum provides for teaching-learning opportunities based on exposure to community broadcasting and extension services.

3.    To continually produce highly competitive Development Communication Graduates.

Master in Mass Communication

The Master in Mass Communication (MMCom) degree is based on the pioneering efforts of the University to establish the first-ever Graduate School of Communication in Visayas and Mindanao to cater to the growing need of mass communication institutions, government and non-government agencies, mass media organizations and other entities, for practitioners who want to pursue higher education to compliment their work-related skills.

It is consistent with the mission of the WVSU to offer higher and advanced educational programs in a manner that showcases excellence in instruction and lead in the generation of advanced knowledge in multi-disciplinary fields through state-of the-art research.

Likewise, it pursues the goal and objectives of the University to open new programs, implement vertical scheme, and enhance the accreditation levels of programs. 

Program Objectives:

1.     To produce highly qualified mass media practitioners, communication teachers, and other professionals in communication-related fields;

2.     To develop advanced skill competencies in different areas of mass communications;

3.     To enhance interdisciplinary and specialized knowledge in the different areas of mass communication;

4.     To develop advanced communication research skills among mass media practitioners, communication teachers, and other professionals in communication related fields;

5.     To address the need of the mass media industry and private and public institutions for highly-skilled and specialized manpower; and

6.     To promote the Filipino culture through the mass media by providing specialists in the various fields of media work.

1.     Teachers from educational institutions in Western Visayas offering mass communications and other communication-related courses.

2.     Mass media practitioners who are working towards advancing their skills through formal education.

3.     Government employees involved in information and communication-related work and those who are in-line for promotion as division chiefs.

4.     Fresh graduates of mass communications courses who opt to advance their academic qualifications before practicing in the field

5.     Graduates and professionals from other fields who may be interested to  pursue graduate studies in mass communications
