Institute of ICT


Students are admitted to the Institute according to University rules and regulations. Applicants shall accomplish the following requirements:

  1. Completed a secondary course in a school recognized by the Department of Education;
  2. Have taken the WVSU College Admission Test (WVSU-CAT) with rating of 100 or better;
  3. Have taken the ICT Aptitude Test
  4. Certificate of Good Moral Character issued by the principal of the secondary school graduated from;
  5. Passing a physical examination and submission of Medical Certificate duly accomplished by the University Physician
Due to limited slots, applicants will be ranked based on their WVSU-CAT and ICT Aptitude Scores.

Program Offered

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT)

BSIT aims to produce quality graduates who study, analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate ICT solutions. The program focuses on the use of ICT for a variety of applications such as in business, governance, education, personal and entertainment. Professional subjects include logic design, microcomputer technology, computer systems organization, networking technologies, and systems resource management.

Students must complete 161 academic units: 74 units of general education subjects, and 87 units of ITE core and professional subjects. This include a full-time on-the-job training/internship at selected ICT establishments in the country on the student’s last term prior to his/her graduation.During their 3rd year, students will begin developing their thesis projects. Students will design, develop, and implement a software/information system/computer application (with a corresponding documentation), which will be evaluated by a panel of jurors prior to his/her graduation.

Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS)

The BSIS program aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitude in the design and implementation of solutions that integrate information technology with business processes. This program prepares students to be IT professionals that could harness ICT as a strategic resource to meet business and organizational objectives. Graduates of BSIS are expected to have acquired but not limited to the following competencies: (a) personal skills, (b )interpersonal skills, and (c) technical understanding on information abstraction, representation, and organization; computing architectures and delivery systems; concepts of information and system distribution; information management and systems development; and computing tools and knowledge application.

Students must complete 161 academic units: 68 units of general education subjects, 75 units of core and professional subjects, and 15units of electives. This includes a full-time on-the-job training/internship among the selected ICT establishments in the country. During their 3rd year, students are required to start working on their thesis/capstone project, which will be evaluated by a panel of jurors prior to graduation.

Job opportunities for BSIS graduates include but not limited to the following: business process analyst, data quality specialist, entrepreneur in the IT industry, IS instructor, systems auditor, quality assurance specialist, systems implementation officer, technical support specialist and IT project manager.



Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has penetrated the core of societal and individual lives. It is now at the fulcrum of the balance of international trade, employment levels, business, and politics.  Its developments are changing the course of all other technologies.  Today, ICT has become less of a choice and more of a requirement for individuals and societies concerned with competitiveness in the international scene.

The ICT sector provides the necessary infrastructure and support systems for attaining the development goals of the Philippines – which is gradually transforming the country into a Newly Industrializing Country Status (STAND), computer software, a vital component of ICT, is identified as the country’s export winners.  In the National Technology Information Plan, strategies for harnessing ICT for national development have been enumerated.  These include the formulation of policies and standards to improve productivity and economic performance of the Philippines. Also given attention are the legitimate interests of Filipino entrepreneurs to engage in business of providing ICT products and services.

The primary role of ICT education is to develop professionals who shall be able to meet the growing manpower demand by expanding the ICT industries in the country.

Being the lead institution of higher learning in Western Visayas, and in response to the major thrust to the Commission on Higher Education for a more relevant, technology-oriented, and globally competitive graduates, the West Visayas State University, through the Institute of Information and Communications offers ICT courses to cater to qualified and deserving students in the region.
