WVSU hosts KAATHAGAN 2026 for student-administration dialogue

West Visayas State University (WVSU) students and administrators came together for KAATHAGAN 2026, a student consultation organized by the WVSU University Student Council on Aug. 20, 2026, at the College of Medicine Gym, with the theme “One Voice, One Echo.”

The consultation brought together students from various colleges, student councils and student organizations across the Main Campus, with the participation of University President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz, Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension Dr. Greta G. Gabinete, Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Peter Ernie D. Paris, deans, directors and other key administrative officials.

KAATHAGAN 2026 provided a venue for students to raise concerns, seek clarification and engage directly with University officials on matters affecting their academic experience and student life. The consultation was organized into four segments covering academic policies, curriculum and instruction, enrollment and records, academic programs and awards, graduate school and the academic calendar; scholarships, student organizations and activities, counseling, student facilities and services, research and extension, learning resources and library services, and other student services; student welfare, campus security, conduct and discipline, and University policies; and previous University actions and decisions and other concerns.

Discussions highlighted the need to strengthen student-facing processes, policies and academic infrastructure, including the revision of the Student Handbook, existing academic and administrative policies, and other student-related processes. The administration acknowledged gaps and challenges in these areas, including those within and beyond the University’s direct control, and assured students that the concerns raised would be carefully considered and prioritized in improving services, policies and the overall student experience.

As the dialogue concluded, Villaruz reaffirmed the University’s full commitment to addressing student concerns and identifying appropriate ways forward. He emphasized that his office remains open and accessible to students, encouraging them to raise their concerns and engage directly with the administration. He also underscored WVSU’s commitment to upholding students’ rights, equity and justice, while advancing their holistic development and welfare.

The consultation underscored the University’s commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with students and ensuring that their concerns inform institutional actions, particularly in improving processes, policies and services that directly affect the student experience.
