  • General Information on WVSU Graduate School Admission

    Important Reminders:

    1. Read the instructions carefully before you start using the online application.
    2. All documentary requirements must be submitted online. Applicants with incomplete requirements will not be considered for evaluation.
    3. Applicants with existing WVSU IUIS Account (enrolled at WVSU, Main Campus from AY 2009-2010 and onwards) shall only email a Letter of Intent to the College where the applicant wishes to apply.
    4. Applicant without existing WVSU IUIS Account (graduate of WVSU External Campuses and other schools) shall fill out the IUIS Online Application Module. Please go to wvsu.edu.ph/how-to-apply-using-the-online-application-module/for more info.

    I. Online Application Period for 1st Semester, AY 2024-2025: June 1 – 15, 2024

    II.  Criteria for Graduate School Admissions

    For Master’s Program

    • A bachelor’s degree with a weighted average of 2.0 or its equivalent
    • Entrance examination results
    • Potential for graduate work and educational leadership based on results of interview
    • A graduate of bachelor’s degree program (For College/School of Education, the applicants are education/diploma in teaching graduates or have teaching experience.)
    • Physical and medical examination for qualified applicants

    For Doctoral Program

    • A master’s degree with a GPA of at least 1.75 or its equivalent
    • Entrance examination results
    • Potential for graduate work and educational leadership based on results of interview
    • A graduate of master’s degree program (thesis or non-thesis)
    • Physical and medical examination for qualified applicants

    III. Requirements:

    1. Transcript of Records for Evaluation Purposes only
    2. One (1) recent Passport size (35 mm x 45 mm) ID photo

    Note: Other Entrance Credentials shall be submitted to the respective College

     IV. Application Process

      1. Scan or take a photo of your requirements.Have the image files ready for uploading later.
      2. Provide a digital/scanned ID photo of yourself. Make sure to follow the Photo ID requirements Guide. 
      3. Your email address should have your first and last name for easier verification. It could be done on any format. Example:  firstname.lastname@gmail.com or lastname.firstname@gmail.com. If none of the format is available, try adding your birth year or birthday at the end of your email (e.g. firstname.lastname0102@gmail.com). If your current email address does not comply with the required format, create a new one using Gmail.  Use of non-complying email will result to failure of your application.
    1. Go to https://iuis.wvsu.edu.ph/iuis/applicants/
    2. Click Apply Here
    3. Fill out all text fields with correct information and select the campus. Make sure to supply the correct email address. You will need that for confirmation later.
    4. Click Create Account.
    5. Check your registered email address for your Email Verification Code.
    6. Fill out the verification code and click Verify Code.
    7. Tick the privacy consent check box and click Agree and Continue.
    8. An email confirmation will be sent to your inbox together with your temporary login details. Click Continue to proceed to your application.
    9. Complete Steps 1 to 5 by filling all necessary fields in the application form. Make sure to provide correct details and check each entry for errors. If a field is required and data is not available, write “Not Applicable” or “NA”.
    10. Upload the image files of your ID photo and the required documents.
    11. Click Upload and Submit.
    12. Click Okay to process the uploading of your files.
    13. Read the information in the Applicant Certification field and click the Submit Application after reviewing your form.
    14. The system will send your Application login credentials to your email. You can login and view the notification board and your applicant data.
      Note: This is different from your temporary account in step 5. Use the username and password to login to the Online Application Module to view / modify your application data.
    15. Be sure to logout from the Online Application Module.
    16. Check your email regularly for notification emails from the Registrar or College(s) of the course(s) that you applied for.

  • How to Apply using the Online Application Module

    Before you begin:

    1. Take a photo or scan your Senior High School report card(for Undergraduate Applicant) and Transcript of Records (for Graduate School applicant). For Senior High School graduates,  the grades as of first semester should be in the card.  Have the image file ready for uploading later.
    2. Take a selfie photo of yourself following the Photo ID requirements Guide.  Locate the image file of your photo and resize following the image resizer guide.
    3. Check that you have a valid email address in the format firstname.lastname@gmail.com.  If your current email address does not comply with the required format, create a new one using either Gmail or Yahoo.  Note: Use of non-complying email will result in the failure of your application.
    4. Go to http://iuis.wvsu.edu.ph/aims/applicants/


    STEP 1

    In the Online Application module click the Apply Here button.


    STEP 2

    Input the required information in the space provided and Click the Create Account button to continue.

    STEP 3

    Read the Data Privacy Consent and click the tick box that applies to you. click the Agree and Continue button to proceed with your application.

    • I am a Student- Applicant who is 18 years old / above 18 years old.

    •  I /We am/are the parents/s or legal guardian of a student-applicant who is a minor (below 18 years old).



    STEP 4

    The system will provide you the temporary log-in credentials. This will allow you to log-in anytime and continue your application. The system will also automatically send the temporary log-in credentials to your registered email address. Login here



    STEP 5

     Click the Continue button to complete your application.




    STEP 6

    In the Department Information, choose the Department type that applies to you and Select your preferred course or program and click the Save and Continue button.



    STEP 7

    Input all the necessary information in the provided fields of the application form in all tabs.

    STEP 8

    Click the Save and Continue button to proceed to the next tab and to make sure that your Information is saved successfully in the system. The Upload Documents/ ID and Certificate tab, this will allow you to upload your applicant ID photo and the scanned required documents for admission.

    2. Select your photo and click the open button. It will automatically upload your photo.

    2. Click the Browse button. The system will display the documents from your computer.
    3. Select the document or image that you are going to upload.
    4. Click the Open button
    5. Click the Upload File button

    Note: You select multiple documents or image, then click the Open button.



    STEP 9

    Read the information in the Applicant Certification field and click the Submit Application and Okay button once you are done.

    Note: You can click the Previous button to go back to the earlier tabs to review the information that you encoded in your application form. Make sure that you will conduct a review before submitting your application form.


    STEP 10

    Read the information posted in the Applicant’s Account Details form. Once this form pop-out it means that your application has been submitted and you are provided a permanent applicant log-in credentials.

    • You can use this log-in details to log-in anytime to to view your application status and admission test schedule and results
    • The system will also automatically send the permanent log-in credentials to your registered email address.

    Click the Continue button to view the following:

    The 3rd CHED Regional Quality Awards is part of the celebration of the CHED’s 30th Anniversary and the 4th Higher Education Day with the theme “Transformative and Resilient Philippine Higher Education.”

    These recognitions align with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act No. 7722, known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994,” and Republic Act No. 11522, which declares May 18th as “National Higher Education Day” to commemorate the founding anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

    According to CHED’s letter to WVSU, the CHED Regional Quality Awards aim to acknowledge the efforts and initiatives of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the areas of instruction, research, and community extension, among others, based on respective CHED Memorandum Orders and related issuances of the Commission.

    CALOHEA Regional Subject-Specific Reference Frameworks as tools for promoting recognition and internationalization


    One of the tools created by the CALOHEA Erasmus+ project participants in order to facilitate recognition of degrees and periods of studies both within the ASEAN region and between the ASEAN region and other world regions are Regional Subject-Specific Reference Frameworks.

    A Qualifications Framework is a structure that allows us to classify different qualifications in a geographical area covered by the framework and establish a broad equivalence of qualifications (e.g. first cycle of higher education/undergraduate, etc.) across the region. This is done through describing what a learner will have developed in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, competences, and others upon successfully completing a particular level of studies.

    Regional Qualifications Reference Frameworks seek to establish broad equivalence among qualifications offered in more than one country. Such frameworks are intended to be used as Reference Documents – facilitating recognition but not overruling National regulations or National Qualifications Frameworks. The ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) could be two good examples here.

    CALOHEA Subject-Specific Qualifications Reference Frameworks facilitate recognition by allowing the following: Clearly see which key dimensions must be addressed by each program in the subject area; establish equivalence between qualifications offered in different countries in terms of their level, regardless of how the qualifications are referred to in each of the countries; express specialization of a particular program in terms of the sub-dimensions addressed; compare the level of achievement aimed at for each of the sub-dimensions – in terms of knowledge, skills or responsibilities; compare shorter periods of study as well – periods of study during which only particular types of knowledge, specific skills or capacity to perform particular responsibilities can be developed.

    CALOHEA Regional Subject-Specific Qualifications Reference Frameworks state in a detailed manner what knowledge, skills, attitudes, competences, etc. are expected from graduates of a ARQF Level 6 degrees in Civil Engineering, Medicine and Teacher Education; & allow recognition across all the countries involved in the development of the Frameworks.

    WVSU College of Education Main Campus is top performing school in 2024 Licensure Exam for Teachers; has 2 topnotchers

    Congratulations to the College of Education at the WVSU Main Campus for achieving second place among the top-performing schools in the March 2024 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). The College ranked second in the elementary level with a pass rate of 95.58% and third in the secondary level with a pass rate of 98.21%.
    Additionally, the WVSU COE Main Campus produced two topnotchers, both scoring 90.80%. Kaye Ann Socobos Gulmatico, a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education graduate, ranked 9th at the elementary level, while Angelika Andrade Asonada, a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science alumna, ranked 10th at the secondary level.
    The LET was administered on March 17, 2024, and the results were released today, May 24, 2024.

    WVSU president receives prestigious Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Award as ‘Filipino Physician of Distinction in Academe’

    The president of West Visayas State University (WVSU), Dr. Joselito Villaruz, was recognized as the Filipino Physician of Distinction in Academe during the prestigious 33rd Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards on May 18, 2024.

    Dr. Villaruz, now in his second term as WVSU president, received his award from the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) and PMA Foundation for Professional Medical Advancement Inc., in partnership with United Laboratories, Inc.

    The ceremony, held from 8 a.m. to noon at Function Room 1 of the SMX Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga, honored Dr. Villaruz with a specially designed Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards Trophy, a Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards Medallion, a cash prize of P50,000.00, and P50,000.00 worth of Unilab medicines to be donated to a charitable institution of his choice. 

    The Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Award is an annual search for outstanding Filipino physicians who embody the ideals of the national hero in their lives, practice, and service.

    Dr. Villaruz was awarded on the basis of the following criteria: Academe Involvement; Research and Scholarly Works; Community, Socio-cultural and Religious Involvement; Government service/partnership; Professional Practice; Experience and Training.

    Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz is a product of the Philippine public school system, graduating from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) with a BS in Biology, and proceeding to earn his MD degree from West Visayas State University (WVSU), where he was the class salutatorian and the most outstanding medical graduate in 1991. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at WVSU Medical Center (WVSUMC) in 1996, became a diplomate of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) in 1999, and was conferred a fellowship by the same specialty society in 2006. He earned two postgraduate degrees: a Master in Management from UPV and a PhD in Educational Management from WVSU. He also completed a diploma/certificate course at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) for the Global Academic Leadership Program in 2022.

    Dr. Villaruz has served in various capacities at WVSU and the WVSU-Medical Center, including Training Officer and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. In 2009, he was designated Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs at the WVSU College of Medicine (COM), a position he held for a year before becoming Dean of the College for seven and a half years, the first alumnus to do so. His term saw the college’s external accreditation, the launch of the WVSU Journal of Medical Studies, and consistent top performance in the Physician Licensure Examination. Additionally, he secured government funds to expand the College of Medicine and establish a Modern Skills Laboratory for medical students through legislated appropriations.

    He has served as the editor-in-chief of the WVSU Journal of Medical Studies and the OIC Chair of the COM Office of Research.

    One of Dr. Villaruz’s career highlights was his appointment as OIC President from November 2013 to May 2014. During this short stint, he left a significant legacy in managing the university’s affairs.

    In 2019, he was appointed the 8th President of WVSU. He initiated the university’s vision to become a research university, achieving significant research milestones and improving WVSU’s national and international rankings in research productivity. He also initiated the WVSU Internationalization Program.

    In 2012, the Commission on Higher Education invited Dr. Villaruz to join the Technical Committee for Medical Education, an appointment he held until May 2021. One of his greatest contributions to medical education was his participation in crafting the policies, standards, and guidelines for the Doctor of Medicine Program (2016).

    In June 2022, he was appointed Chair of the Technical Panel for Medical Education (TPME). As TPME Chair, he played a pivotal role in implementing RA 11509, the “Doktor Para sa Bayan Law,” by assessing and recommending the approval of new medical programs by State Universities and Colleges to the CHED en banc. He also advises the CHED Chairman on awarding grants to existing and new medical schools for facility and laboratory modernization. Currently, he leads the TPME in formulating the SMART MD Roadmap for the Philippines, with Universal Healthcare (UHC) as a backdrop, and has led the formulation of the CHED-approved Accelerated Pathway for Medicine (APMed), set to be implemented in AY 2024-2025.

    Dr. Villaruz served as National President of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges (APMC) for two consecutive terms (2015 and 2016). He initiated institutional reforms, including automating the National Internship Program for medical graduates, launching the APMC Journal’s maiden issue, and assisting medical schools in transitioning to outcome-based education. Since 2017, he has been a member of the APMC Post-graduate Internship Committee, contributing to the formulation of policies, standards, and guidelines for the National Internship Program.

    WVSU Celebrates 11th PASUC-NCAF 2024 Victories with Pride

Villa West Visayas State University acknowledged the resounding success of its delegates at the 11th Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges National Culture and the Arts Festival (PASUC-NCAF) 2024 during a flag ceremony held in front of the Administration Building on April 29, 2024. The College of PESCAR proudly presented its champion performance of Sala Ti Alat during the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the university’s cultural journey. Sala Ti Alat clinched the championship title in the Philippine Folkdance category at the PASUC-NCAF last April 24. Moreover, the administration of West Visayas State University took the opportunity to extend well-deserved recognition to the entire university delegation for their outstanding performances in various competitions during the event. Notably, Jon Athan Maypa, a second-year BCAED student, secured second place in Instrumental Piano (Solo). Likewise, the Short and Sweet Play-Musical, and Short and Sweet Play-Dialogue bagged the second place. The Indigenous Dance (Tarektek) placed third. WVSU-COP also showcased diverse talents in other fields, including Lynden John Tajolosa in Pencil Drawing, Jenny Rose Balboa in the Kundiman category, Lovely Delos Reyes in Vocal Pop (Solo), and the WVSU Panayana Cultural Group for the Standard Chorale Competition. Recognized during the flag ceremony were Professor-Trainers from the College of PESCAR, namely Professor Liberty R. Porras, Professor Jon Kristoffer E. Deguma, Professor Noel P. Mondejar, Dr. Jemuel Garcia Jr., Professor Ryan Puljanan, Professor Rocky Penuela, Professor Rus Will Ledesma, Professor Ronie Libutaque, Professor Nenitte Bajador, Professor Hennel Rhee Funtecha, Professor Sheila Ann Montero, Ms. Febrah Mae Tacorda, and Mr. Leonard Catedrilla.

    TO BOOST OUTPUTS: WVSU profs attend research writing workshop with top researcher

    To enhance research-related outputs, such as commentaries, essays, opinion pieces, notes, and longer articles, approximately 40 WVSU professors participated in a Writeshop focused on Varied Article Types for Journal Publication.

    The 2-day workshop, held on April 29-30, 2024, was led by Prof. Don Prisno III, editor-in-chief of Public Health Challenges (Wiley) and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BMC Global Health Research and Policy.

    Prof. Prisno, a medical doctor and global health scientist specializing in health equity, covered the following topics on the first day: Landscape of WVSU Research, Types of Articles, and Journal Selection.

    On April 30, Prof. Prisno will guide WVSU professors in a workshop on Developing a Topic and Writing the Manuscript.

    Meanwhile, Dr. Greta Gabinete, WVSU Vice President for Research and Extension, stated in her opening remarks that the workshop “aims to maximize scholarly impact by exploring key insights and strategies for enhancing research visibility and influence.”

    Hosted on the 4th floor of the Research and Extension Building of WVSU, participants are expected to produce five outputs each within five days for submission to Dr. Prisno, who leads a global initiative, “Achieving University Excellence through Research,” addressing global research inequity.

    Prof. Prisno teaches Economics of Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and International Health at the University of the Philippines (Open University).  He was a Visiting Scientist at Harvard Medical School and currently holds Adjunct and Visiting Professorship at various universities in Asia.
