The West Visayas State University – College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) is a state-funded college under the West Visayas State University Main Campus. Situated in the tranquil countryside of Brgy. Jayobo, Lambunao, Iloilo, WVSU-CAF is surrounded by fertile fields, lush forests, nature trails, rivers, and waterfalls, covering a vast area of 3,478.98 hectares. The serene environment provides an ideal learning setting for individuals who appreciate nature.
The West Visayas State University – College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) is a state-funded college under the West Visayas State University Main Campus. Situated in the tranquil countryside of Brgy. Jayobo, Lambunao, Iloilo, WVSU-CAF is surrounded by fertile fields, lush forests, nature trails, rivers, and waterfalls, covering a vast area of 3,478.98 hectares. The serene environment provides an ideal learning setting for individuals who appreciate nature.
Initially founded as the Iloilo National Agricultural School (INAS) in 1951, it was later converted to the Iloilo National College of Agriculture (INCA) in 1964 before finally being integrated into the WVSU system in 1986.
At present, WVSU-CAF offers two Baccalaureate Programs: The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and the Bachelor of Science in Forestry. Both programs have been recognized as Centers of Development by CHED Region 6. Additionally, they have received Level IV – Phase I accreditation status from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).
The Graduate School of WVSU-CAF provides three programs: Master’s in Agriculture (Level IV accredited), Master of Science in Forestry (Level II accredited), and Doctor of Philosophy in Agriculture (Level II accredited). Notably, WVSU-CAF holds an ISO certification as an educational institution, demonstrating its commitment to meeting international standards. It has been rated three stars by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and four stars by the University Performance Matrix (UPM), further attesting to its quality and performance.
The college is also home to a Wildlife Conservation Center that serves as a sanctuary for endangered wildlife species unique to Western Visayas. WVSU-CAF has gained prominence for producing exceptional graduates in the fields of Agriculture and Forestry, capable of meeting the expectations of local and international agencies and industries. Its commitment to excellence is evident through the consistent achievements of its students, with several top-notchers in licensure exams, including second placers in both the Licensure Examination for Agriculturists and the Foresters Licensure Examination.
Both the faculty and students of WVSU-CAF actively engage in conducting highly relevant research that addresses societal needs and supports various national and international frameworks, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Research areas of interest include Native Animal Production, SMART Agriculture, Agroforestry, and Biodiversity Conservation. This dedication to research further enhances the college’s contribution to knowledge and the advancement of these important fields.
