Satellite Campuses
West Visayas State University – Himamaylan City Campus traces back its humble beginning to the year 2006. It was formerly called West Visayas State University – Extension Campus at Himamaylan City (WVSU – ECHC) as its former name suggests, it was an extension campus of West Visayas State University main campus (WVSU) in La Paz, Iloilo City, Philippines.
Being an extension campus of the prestigious WVSU back then entailed following the system of operation of one of the Philippine’s top-performing state universities in terms of licensure examination performances for teachers, nurses and doctors and the number of topnotchers produced. Hence, its identity as an extension campus made it to live up to the tradition of excellence of WVSU main campus.
During its thirteen years as an extension campus, it kind of acquired, on its own, colorful feathers for its cap. Since its conception, it has been consistently producing teacher education graduates whose Licensure Examination for Teachers’ (LET) ratings have been above that of the national passing rates. In 2012, it even had a 100% passing rate in the elementary education LET. But an icing on the cake was surprisingly added in 2017. This extension campus produced its very first topnotcher in the elementary education LET: Ms. Julie Ann V. Gentilezo landed on the 7th spot nationally.
This extension campus also produced IT professionals and hotel and restaurant services and technology professionals as these programs were also offered alongside the teacher education program. Tracer studies of its graduates found that many of these IT and hospitality professionals are now working in the industry both in and outside the country. For the graduates of its teacher education program for the last thirteen years, several young professional teachers are now employed in public and private schools in Himamaylan City and in other towns and cities. There are even some who already hold middle, managerial positions as program chairs and Teachers-in-Charge, not to mention its very own six, homegrown alumni from different batches who are now members of its highly educated faculty. Moreover, there are some of its graduates who even ventured outside the country and are now teaching overseas, especially in Thailand. All these speak of the high quality education Himamaylan City Campus provided and has been providing.
Fast-forward to 2022, the former WVSU extension campus is now a proud WVSU – Himamaylan City Campus, an ISO-certified, AACCUP-accredited, permanent, external, university campus which continues to live up the tradition of excellence.
