West Visayas State University (WVSU), through Dr. Villaruz, signed a usufruct agreement with Brgy. Jayobo, Lambunao, today, April 3, 2024, at the Lambunao Government Center. This agreement will allow them to utilize WVSU-CAF land for the construction of a gymnasium and multi-purpose hall. Dr. Villaruz emphasized that this project aligns with the university’s core function of extension, benefiting the community at large.
The Commission on Audit (COA) held Annual Audit Exit Conference on April 2, 2024 to discuss the Audit Findings of the accounts and operations of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main and External Campuses. This conference held at the Research Building, ensures fair and balanced reporting process allowing the WVSU Management to present their perspective.
Dr. Villaruz extended his congratulations to Kyle Palabrica and Lucas Gerard Arañador, who proudly represented West Visayas State University in the Search for Mr. & Ms. RASUC-VI 2024. Demonstrating their remarkable performance, Palabrica and Arañador were hailed as third runner-up and first runner-up, respectively.
Faculty member Arizza Julia A. Inocencio, of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literary Studies (DEFLLS) of West Visayas State University, participated in the 9th Philippine Korean Studies Symposium-Special Workshop for Filipino KFL Educators where she presented and discussed the Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages Program offered by West Visayas State University.
The symposium, held under the theme “A Decade of Korean Studies in the Philippines: A Glance at the Past, a Gaze at the Present, a Glimpse of the Future,” aimed to disseminate the latest academic outcomes of renowned scholars in and outside of the Philippines.
Additionally, it sought to mobilize Philippine-based Koreanists to extend their knowledge in Korea from various disciplines.
During the three-day symposium, Ms. Inocencio highlighted the unique aspects of the program, particularly the four-year Bachelor’s degree program in Foreign Languages, with a major in Korean—the first and only program of its kind in the Philippines.
As discussed during the workshop, the UP Department of Linguistics and UPKRC, supported by the Korea Foundation, are always open to inquiries and partnership suggestions for Korean language training and classes.
The above-mentioned institutions are eager to explore potential collaborations and welcome any opportunities for mutual growth and development.

Dr. Jugar will take part in the Measurement of Competency Assessment of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education in Asia (CALOHEA) Project Meeting at the Center for Teaching Excellence.
On March 9, 2024, Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz delivered a message during the Regional Mass Oath-Taking of successful passers of the 2023 Licensure Examination for Agriculturists at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel. Dr. Villaruz highlighted that as agriculturists of this generation, they play a key role as mobilizers, steering our region towards a bountiful economy.
West Visayas State University (WVSU), in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada hosted the Marshall McLuhan Forum Series on Responsible Media. The event, held at the University Cultural Center on March 8, 2024, focuses on “Freedom and the Free Press: The Role of Journalists in Critical Public Discourse and Accountability in the Post-Truth Era in the Philippines.” The forum features veteran journalist Ms. Karmina Constantino as the resource speaker.
