Zed Lexter T. Causing, a first-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student at West Visayas State University–Main Campus, placed first runner-up in the Regional Championship of the 29th Philippine Statistics Quiz–Western Visayas held Nov. 6 at District 21 Hotel.
Causing earned the second-highest spot in the regional competition, which gathered student representatives from colleges and universities across Western Visayas. All three top finishers were from Iloilo, with the champion and second runner-up coming from Central Philippine University.
Guided by Prof. Rosemarie M. Java and Prof. John Alexis B. Gemino of the WVSU Mathematics Department, Causing showcased exceptional analytical ability and mastery of statistical concepts — an impressive feat for a freshman nursing student competing in a mathematics-focused contest.
The WVSU community celebrates Causing’s success as a reflection of the university’s academic excellence and the interdisciplinary strength that bridges fields such as nursing and mathematics.
