WVSU shines in National Statistics Month, named Best NSM Agency in Western Visayas

West Visayas State University (WVSU) emerged as one of the top performers in the 2025 National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration, earning the Best NSM Agency Award in Western Visayas during the closing and awarding ceremony held on Oct. 28 at the RDC Hall, DEPDev VI.

With this year’s theme, “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All,” the recognition affirms WVSU’s strong commitment to advancing statistical awareness and promoting data-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable national development.

Students from the BS Applied Mathematics program also brought pride to the university, as William Jess Laurence M. Centina and Alyana Angel P. Carman, mentored by Ms. Rosemarie M. Java, won second place in the 18th Statistical Analysis Contest, which tested participants’ ability to analyze, interpret, visualize, and communicate data effectively.

In addition, Mr. John Alexis B. Gemino of the CAS Mathematics Department secured third place and received the Most Reacted Entry Award in the Statistical Infographics Contest, while the department was recognized for its Outstanding Contribution as committee chair of the Statistical Infomercial Contest.

Through these awards, WVSU continues to exemplify excellence, creativity, and innovation—values that guide the university’s mission to strengthen statistical literacy and use of data in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing regional and national progress.
