WVSU marks 124th founding anniversary with thanksgiving, wellness initiatives

The West Visayas State University (WVSU) community celebrated its 124th Founding Anniversary on June 16 with a series of commemorative and wellness-focused activities highlighting the institution’s enduring commitment to excellence, service and holistic development.

Faculty members, staff, administrators and officials from across the WVSU System gathered at the College of Medicine Gym for a Eucharistic Celebration before proceeding to a flag-raising ceremony and flower offering at Unity Park.

A highlight of the program was the message delivered by Prof. O B. Dañucop, who reflected on her years of service and professional journey as an educator in the University. Her remarks underscored the role of WVSU in shaping generations of learners and professionals through its commitment to quality education.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the University also offered free pampering services for faculty and staff at the Audio-Visual Hall, providing members of the WVSU community an opportunity for relaxation and self-care. Meanwhile, representatives from PhilHealth conducted registration activities for its YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan) Program, a government initiative aimed at helping Filipinos safeguard their health and prevent illness through improved access to healthcare services.

Carrying the theme, “124 Years Strong: Building Character, Inspiring Minds, Transforming Generations Through Challenges,” the celebration honored the students, alumni, faculty, staff, administrators and partners whose contributions have helped define the University’s enduring legacy.

As WVSU commemorates more than a century of educational service, the institution continues to uphold its mission of developing competent, compassionate and innovative individuals dedicated to nation-building and community development while fostering the well-being of its academic community.
