The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism program of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Communication (COC) underwent its Fourth Survey Visit (Second Cycle) accreditation conducted by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACUP) Inc. from June 15 to 17 via Zoom.
The three-day evaluation aimed to assess the program’s continued compliance with quality standards in instruction, research, extension, student services and other key areas of academic operations.
Leading the accreditation team were Dr. Adrian Aguilar of Bicol University, who served as team leader, and Dr. Shielanie Dacumos of the University of Rizal System, who served as lead accreditor.
The opening meeting on June 15 gathered university officials, faculty members and accreditation stakeholders. Among those present were Vice President for Academic Affairs Ma. Asuncion Christine Dequilla, representatives from the Quality Assurance Office, COC faculty members and other university officials.
Following the opening meeting, the accreditation team met with program counterparts, received the degree program presentation and began the evaluation of documents.
The second day focused on the continuation of document evaluation and interviews with stakeholders to validate the program’s operations, accomplishments and quality assurance mechanisms.
During the closing program on June 17, Aguilar shared the team’s overall impressions of the program and the college.
He commended the faculty members for their commitment and professionalism, describing them as impressive in carrying out their academic responsibilities. He also noted the college’s extension initiatives and its commitment to further strengthening community engagement through its programs and services.
The accreditation visit forms part of the university’s continuing efforts to uphold academic excellence, ensure quality assurance and strengthen outcomes-based education across its academic programs.
Results of the accreditation survey visit will be released by the AACUP Inc. following its evaluation and review process.
