    Dr. Joselito Villaruz warmly welcomes guests, partners, and delegates to the three-day BayANIhan Summit Visayas Leg, hosted by West Visayas State University (WVSU). 

    The BayANIhan Summit is a nationwide event that aims to uplift and celebrate the contributions of young fishers, foresters, and farmers. The term ‘BayANIhan’ is derived from the root words ‘bayan’ (country), ‘bayani’ (hero), ‘ani’ (harvest), and ‘bayanihan’ (solidarity with others), reflecting the spirit of unity and cooperation among our nation’s agricultural leaders. 

    WVSU is proud to host this event and is committed to supporting programs that benefit the agriculture sector.

    As a leading institution in agricultural education and research, WVSU recognizes the importance of promoting the success of young farmers, fishers, and foresters, and hopes to inspire and empower them to contribute to the country’s agricultural development. The summit runs from August 29 to 31, 2024.

    The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region VI paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Joselito Villaruz on July 30, 2024. The discussion tackled a possible collaboration on BJMP’s 3P’s (Pagbulig, Pagpabakod, Pag-Uswag) Project, aiming to enhance literacy, numeracy, and entrepreneurial skills of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

    WVSU, Villaruz signs Technical Licensing Agreement with Pototan Multi-Purpose Cooperative

    On behalf of West Visayas State university (WVSU), Dr. Joselito Villaruz has signed a Technical Licensing Agreement with the Pototan Multi-Purpose Cooperative to commercialize a novel souring agent made from batuan and taro powder, a technology developed by WVSU. Held on July 22, 2024 at the WVSU Board Room, Dr. Raymund Gemora, Campus Administrator, represented WVSU Pototan Campus, while Pototan Multi-Purpose Cooperative was represented by Dr. Eugene Tañedo, Chairman, and Dr. Charlie Dormindo, Manager. 

    This partnership aims to bring this innovative solution to the market and drive further research and development. The agreement is expected to benefit the public and support local economic growth, aligning with WVSU’s vision to become a research university.

  • ILLO, WVSU Calinog Campus collab for IP education and awareness at indigenous cultural community

    West Visayas State University (WVSU) International and Local Linkages Office (ILLO) embarked on a journey of collaboration with WVSU Calinog Campus and MAED ED 505 (Non-Formal Education) to explore the essence of culture, community, and education on May 11, 2024 in Brgy. Hilwan, Calinog, Iloilo.

    This event was spearheaded by Dr. Raymund Moreno – Director of Public Affairs and Linkages Office (PALO) of WVSU CC; Dr. Marie Candy Celeste- IPED Coordinator/ Director for Academic Affairs WVSU-Calinog Campus with the support of Prof. Edel Carmela Subong-Csoka -Director of International and Local Linkages Office Main Campus.

    Renowned cultural advocate Dr. Jesus Insilada graced the event as guest speaker delivering insightful lecture on “Pagpanumbalik 2024: Pagtingub Para sa Tumandok nga Katiringban kag Edukasyon“.

    Key highlights of the activity were the exchange of insights in preserving indigenous knowledge and culture through education, and lectures on climate change and violence against women and children.

    Residents were also provided with free essential medicines and vitamins through the initiative of RJM Pharmacy, Angel Prem, and RK88 Pharmacy.

    The University has made substantial efforts to ensure that the education provided is not only academically rigorous but also culturally sensitive.

    This event was a testament to the power of collaboration in highlighting the importance of cultural sensitivity and community engagement in education.

    JCI Iloilo Ilang-Ilang launches projects with WVSU ILLO, USC

    JCI Iloilo Ilang-Ilang with WVSU ILLO and WVSU-USC, two sustainable, environmental projects were launched. Paperfect, which aimed to turn scratch papers into notebooks and Basura Mo, Pulungkoan Ko will provide chairs made out of the plastic bottles.

    JCI Iloilo Ilang-Ilang 2024 President, Ms. Lara Jeunesse Villaruel, commenced the said project initiative. She stated, “Hopefully, this is the start of our long-term partnership with WVSU”. Followed by a talk on solid waste management by Iloilo City General Services Officer, Engr. Neil Ravena.

    Ms. Vida Aurora Sy, JCI Iloilo Ilang-Ilang 2024 VP for External Affairs highlighted the objectives of the project. On April 1, specially marked garbage bags will be distributed and the recyclable trash will be collected every Friday of next month.

    By April 26, JCI Iloilo Ilang-Ilang will gather all the collected garbage and turn it into the said chairs and notebooks.

    Finally, July 8-14 will be the distribution of the generated items from the clean-up drive to a few chosen schools.

Villaruz and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas sealed a partnership today, June 27, 2024, at Iloilo City Hall that will shape the future of public administration in the city. The Memorandum of Agreement, signed by the two leaders, outlines the terms and conditions for a collaboration that will provide academic programs to develop excellence in public administration among government employees.

    Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz attended and signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the Multi-Sectoral Advisory Council of Iloilo City, which is envisioned to serve as a multi-sectoral knowledge management hub where clientele have access to intellectual capital to empower communities, sustain good governance, preserve culture, and create a resilient economy. The signing ceremony was held at Diversion 21 Hotel today, June 27, 2024,  joined by Mayor Treñas and other stakeholders.
