CALOHEA Regional Subject-Specific Reference Frameworks as tools for promoting recognition and internationalization
One of the tools created by the CALOHEA Erasmus+ project participants in order to facilitate recognition of degrees and periods of studies both within the ASEAN region and between the ASEAN region and other world regions are Regional Subject-Specific Reference Frameworks.
A Qualifications Framework is a structure that allows us to classify different qualifications in a geographical area covered by the framework and establish a broad equivalence of qualifications (e.g. first cycle of higher education/undergraduate, etc.) across the region. This is done through describing what a learner will have developed in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, competences, and others upon successfully completing a particular level of studies.
Regional Qualifications Reference Frameworks seek to establish broad equivalence among qualifications offered in more than one country. Such frameworks are intended to be used as Reference Documents – facilitating recognition but not overruling National regulations or National Qualifications Frameworks. The ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) could be two good examples here.
CALOHEA Subject-Specific Qualifications Reference Frameworks facilitate recognition by allowing the following: Clearly see which key dimensions must be addressed by each program in the subject area; establish equivalence between qualifications offered in different countries in terms of their level, regardless of how the qualifications are referred to in each of the countries; express specialization of a particular program in terms of the sub-dimensions addressed; compare the level of achievement aimed at for each of the sub-dimensions – in terms of knowledge, skills or responsibilities; compare shorter periods of study as well – periods of study during which only particular types of knowledge, specific skills or capacity to perform particular responsibilities can be developed.
CALOHEA Regional Subject-Specific Qualifications Reference Frameworks state in a detailed manner what knowledge, skills, attitudes, competences, etc. are expected from graduates of a ARQF Level 6 degrees in Civil Engineering, Medicine and Teacher Education; & allow recognition across all the countries involved in the development of the Frameworks.

Dr. Villaruz meets with PEEC reps on Handumanan reforestation and carbon sink project
Panay Energy Electric Corporation representatives held a meeting with Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz to discuss the Handumanan Reforestation and Carbon Sink Project at West Visayas State University College of Forestry (WVSU CAF) on May 10, 2024. This project is focused on developing a sustainable solution for the environment and local community.

WVSU Celebrates 11th PASUC-NCAF 2024 Victories with Pride

Villa West Visayas State University acknowledged the resounding success of its delegates at the 11th Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges National Culture and the Arts Festival (PASUC-NCAF) 2024 during a flag ceremony held in front of the Administration Building on April 29, 2024. The College of PESCAR proudly presented its champion performance of Sala Ti Alat during the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the university’s cultural journey. Sala Ti Alat clinched the championship title in the Philippine Folkdance category at the PASUC-NCAF last April 24. Moreover, the administration of West Visayas State University took the opportunity to extend well-deserved recognition to the entire university delegation for their outstanding performances in various competitions during the event. Notably, Jon Athan Maypa, a second-year BCAED student, secured second place in Instrumental Piano (Solo). Likewise, the Short and Sweet Play-Musical, and Short and Sweet Play-Dialogue bagged the second place. The Indigenous Dance (Tarektek) placed third. WVSU-COP also showcased diverse talents in other fields, including Lynden John Tajolosa in Pencil Drawing, Jenny Rose Balboa in the Kundiman category, Lovely Delos Reyes in Vocal Pop (Solo), and the WVSU Panayana Cultural Group for the Standard Chorale Competition. Recognized during the flag ceremony were Professor-Trainers from the College of PESCAR, namely Professor Liberty R. Porras, Professor Jon Kristoffer E. Deguma, Professor Noel P. Mondejar, Dr. Jemuel Garcia Jr., Professor Ryan Puljanan, Professor Rocky Penuela, Professor Rus Will Ledesma, Professor Ronie Libutaque, Professor Nenitte Bajador, Professor Hennel Rhee Funtecha, Professor Sheila Ann Montero, Ms. Febrah Mae Tacorda, and Mr. Leonard Catedrilla.

Dr. Villaruz administers oath of 479 WVSU Medical Center hospital employees
In a remarkable event marking the 37th Founding Anniversary of West Visayas State University (WVSU) Medical Center, Dr. Villaruz presided over a mass oath-taking ceremony for 479 employees, and also honored the retirees. This significant gathering exemplified the university’s commitment to fostering professional growth and unity among its healthcare workforce.

Dr. Villaruz welcomes participants to the university-wide job fair
The West Visayas State University (WVSU), through the Office of Student Affairs and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Iloilo City, organized a University-wide Job Fair. This event was specifically designed to cater to the career needs of WVSU’s graduating students and alumni. The occasion commenced with an opening address by Dr. Villaruz, who emphasized the significance of this event in assisting university students in finding suitable job opportunities post-graduation.

WVSU enters usurfruct agreement with LGU Lambunao and Brgy. Jayobo
West Visayas State University (WVSU), through Dr. Villaruz, signed a usufruct agreement with Brgy. Jayobo, Lambunao, today, April 3, 2024, at the Lambunao Government Center. This agreement will allow them to utilize WVSU-CAF land for the construction of a gymnasium and multi-purpose hall. Dr. Villaruz emphasized that this project aligns with the university’s core function of extension, benefiting the community at large.

Language Festival attracts WVSU students
In a vibrant display of linguistic diversity and cultural celebration, the Foreign Languages Students’ Society (FLSS) kicked off the annual two-day 2024 Language Festival at WVSU’s Jubilee Park on February 21-22, 2024.
The event, organized by the FLSS, primarily comprises undergraduate AB Foreign Languages students from WVSU. Day 1 saw the lively opening of a colorful parade featuring national costumes from South Korea, Japan, and China, as well as a portrayal of characters in cosplay costumes. Various booths and contests added to the lively atmosphere, with all events welcoming participants from the Taga-West community.
This year’s activities highlighted the Language Quiz Bowl, KPOP Random Play, and the BAFL Talent Show, all open to Taga-West participants.

Oath-taking Ceremony of the 8th WVSU President
Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz formally commenced his second term and took his oath as the 8th President of West Visayas State University (WVSU) during a ceremony at the WVSU Cultural Center on Thursday, Jan. 25.

WVSU joins cultural mapping project
West Visayas State University (WVSU) is among the partner state universities and colleges (SUCs) undertaking the collaborative Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras Project (CMPG), a priority cultural initiative led by Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda.
WVSU President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz, along with other SUC presidents, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) during the Project Launch and MOA signing at the Little Theater, University of the Philippines Visayas, Iloilo City campus on the morning of December 14, 2023.
WVSU is tasked with the Cultural Mapping of Iloilo City and Iloilo’s 3rd District.
