Language Festival attracts WVSU students

In a vibrant display of linguistic diversity and cultural celebration, the Foreign Languages Students’ Society (FLSS) kicked off the annual two-day 2024 Language Festival at WVSU’s Jubilee Park on February 21-22, 2024.

The event, organized by the FLSS, primarily comprises undergraduate AB Foreign Languages students from WVSU. Day 1 saw the lively opening of a colorful parade featuring national costumes from South Korea, Japan, and China, as well as a portrayal of characters in cosplay costumes. Various booths and contests added to the lively atmosphere, with all events welcoming participants from the Taga-West community.

This year’s activities highlighted the Language Quiz Bowl, KPOP Random Play, and the BAFL Talent Show, all open to Taga-West participants.

The System-wide WVSU College Admission Test (WVSUCAT) for AY 2024-2025 is scheduled on March 10, 2024 (Sunday).

Only those who applied for the online admission and satisfied the requirements are eligible to take the WVSUCAT. For Main Campus applicants, the process of sending out Examination Permits to the applicant’s email is ongoing until February 29, 2024. Qualified WVSUCAT applicants should check their Inbox/Spam folders for the Examination Permit. Meanwhile, external campus applicants will receive their examination permits physically from the registrar’s office of the campus where they applied in.

 

Applicants at the Main Campus who submitted their online applications from Dec. 1, 2023, to January 17, 2024, and have not received their Examination Permit by February 29, 2024, may either visit the Registrar’s Office or contact the following channels for assistance

For applicants who submitted their online applications from January 17-31, the processing of applications and the issuance of permits are still underway. However, if an applicant has not yet completed the necessary documentary requirements, please visit the registrar’s office or contact the provided information below.

Jeju National University ends immersion visit at WVSU

The Jeju National University (JNU) Academic & Cultural Immersion program in partnership with West Visayas State University (WVSU) has concluded with a dynamic Culminating Activity and Closing Program held at the WVSU Research Building on Feb. 15, 2024.

 

The event marked the conclusion of a transformative experience that fostered cultural exchange and collaborative research initiatives between JNU and WVSU.

 

The morning session kicked off with welcome remarks from Head Coordinator Dr. Eleonora Padilla and ILLO Director Edel Carmela Subong-Csoka. The audience was then treated to insights from Korean delegates who shared their enriching cultural experiences in Iloilo and Western Visayas.

 

The afternoon segment, spearheaded by Dr. Joel T. De Castro, Head of BINHI, centered on research initiatives. Dr. De Castro’s opening remarks set the stage for JNU student teams to present their innovative research projects focused on smart farming initiatives. These collaborative endeavors showcased the power of innovation bridging linguistic and cultural divides, with the projects developed in partnership with counterparts from WVSU’s College of ICT.

 

The event reached its conclusion with closing remarks from Dr. Ma. Beth S. Concepcion, dean of the College of ICT, emphasizing the significance of cross-cultural collaboration in fostering academic and cultural enrichment.

 

The Culminating Activity and Closing Program not only celebrated the achievements of the participants but also highlighted the enduring bonds forged through this academic and cultural exchange program.

 

The success of the Jeju National University Academic & Cultural Immersion program underscores the importance of such initiatives in promoting global understanding, collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge across borders.

POLICIES AND GUIDELINES in the APPLICATION for IN-COMING KINDERGARTEN AND GRADE 7 for SY 2024-2025

FOR KINDERGARTEN

Registration / Application PeriodFebruary 19 to March 15, 2024

Kindergarten applicants to West Visayas State University-College of Education-Integrated Laboratory School (WVSU-COE-ILS) should meet the following requirements:

 

  • Age: The child must be at least five (5) years old on or before October 31, 2024 (born between November 1, 2018 to October 31, 2019). This is in accordance with DepEd Order No. 47, s. 2016 or the Omnibus Policy on Kindergarten Education.
  • Original and a photocopy of Birth Certificate (issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
  • Recent 2 x 2 picture
  • Child Progress or Report Card from the pre-kindergarten school (if applicable)
  • Certificate of Employment for employees of the WVSU with PERMANENT STATUS only
  • The applicant must pass all admission requirements such as paper-pencil test and interview.

Registration / Application PeriodFebruary 19 to March 15, 2024

  • Paper and Pencil Test:                                                                       April 13, 2024 (Saturday)
  • Posting of Qualified Applicants for Interview:                                 April 16, 2024 (Tuesday)

  • Posting of the Final List of Qualified Kindergarten Students:     April 29, 2024 (Monday)
  • Medical-Dental Examination To be scheduled later

Steps:

  1. Applicants should register through the WVSU ONLINE APPLICATION MODULE.

    NOTE: Fill out the form with child’s information. 
  2. Submit the hard copy of your requirements at the ILS Secretary’s Office (Room: NAB 117)
  3. If your requirements are complete, you will be given Order of Payment Slip (OPS) for payment of testing fee of two hundred pesos (P 200.00) to be paid at the university cashier office.
  4. Present your official receipt to the ILS Secretary to get your ADMISSION SLIP for the paper and pencil tests.
  5. The list of qualified applicants for the written Examination will be posted at https://www.facebook.com/coe.ils.wvsu. Take note that only applicants who were able to register online and submitted the hard copy of application requirements will be in the list.

FOR GRADE 7 (JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL)

Application Period: MARCH 4 to 15, 2024 

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must have a general weighted average (GWA) of 88 or better in Grade 5 and must have NO grade lower than 85 in any SUBJECT AREA in the 1st and 2nd Grading Periods in Grade 6.
  2. Original and a Photocopy of Birth Certificate (issued by PSA)
  3. Photocopy of school ID
  4. 2 pcs. Recent 2 x 2 picture
  5. Certified photocopy of Report Card in Grade 5 and 1st and 2nd Quarters Grades in Grade 6 (to be certified by the school principal)

Note: There will only be limited slots for Grade 7 since the availability of which will

        depend on the number of qualified applicants coming from the WVSU COE-ILS.

RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH SUSPECTED OR PROBABLE COVID-19 REINFECTION AMONG WVSU EMPLOYEES FROM MARCH 2020 TO MARCH 2022

Please participate in a research of the third year medical students of the West Visayas State University – College of Medicine entitled “Risk Factors Associated with Suspected or Probable COVID-19 Reinfection among WVSU Employees from March 2020 to March 2022”. This is part of their course requirements for Research Ill.
 
Their study intends to profile COVID-19 reinfected patients using the data gathered from WVSU employees reinfected with COVID-19 from March 2020 to March 2022 and determine the significant risk factors associated with reinfection.
