WVSU Celebrates 11th PASUC-NCAF 2024 Victories with Pride

West Visayas State University acknowledged the resounding success of its delegates at the 11th Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges National Culture and the Arts Festival (PASUC-NCAF) 2024 during a flag ceremony held in front of the Administration Building on April 29, 2024.
 
The College of PESCAR proudly presented its champion performance of Sala Ti Alat during the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the university’s cultural journey. Sala Ti Alat clinched the championship title in the Philippine Folkdance category at the PASUC-NCAF last April 24.
 
Moreover, the administration of West Visayas State University took the opportunity to extend well-deserved recognition to the entire university delegation for their outstanding performances in various competitions during the event. Notably, Jon Athan Maypa, a second-year BCAED student, secured second place in Instrumental Piano (Solo). Likewise, the Short and Sweet Play-Musical, and Short and Sweet Play-Dialogue bagged the second place. The Indigenous Dance (Tarektek) placed third.
 
WVSU-COP also showcased diverse talents in other fields, including Lynden John Tajolosa in Pencil Drawing, Jenny Rose Balboa in the Kundiman category, Lovely Delos Reyes in Vocal Pop (Solo), and the WVSU Panayana Cultural Group for the Standard Chorale Competition.
 
Recognized during the flag ceremony were Professor-Trainers from the College of PESCAR, namely Professor Liberty R. Porras, Professor Jon Kristoffer E. Deguma, Professor Noel P. Mondejar, Dr. Jemuel Garcia Jr., Professor Ryan Puljanan, Professor Rocky Penuela, Professor Rus Will Ledesma, Professor Ronie Libutaque, Professor Nenitte Bajador, Professor Hennel Rhee Funtecha, Professor Sheila Ann Montero, Ms. Febrah Mae Tacorda, and Mr. Leonard Catedrilla.

TO BOOST OUTPUTS: WVSU profs attend research writing workshop with top researcher

To enhance research-related outputs, such as commentaries, essays, opinion pieces, notes, and longer articles, approximately 40 WVSU professors participated in a Writeshop focused on Varied Article Types for Journal Publication.

The 2-day workshop, held on April 29-30, 2024, was led by Prof. Don Prisno III, editor-in-chief of Public Health Challenges (Wiley) and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BMC Global Health Research and Policy.

 

Prof. Prisno, a medical doctor and global health scientist specializing in health equity, covered the following topics on the first day: Landscape of WVSU Research, Types of Articles, and Journal Selection.

 

On April 30, Prof. Prisno will guide WVSU professors in a workshop on Developing a Topic and Writing the Manuscript.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Greta Gabinete, WVSU Vice President for Research and Extension, stated in her opening remarks that the workshop “aims to maximize scholarly impact by exploring key insights and strategies for enhancing research visibility and influence.”

 

Hosted on the 4th floor of the Research and Extension Building of WVSU, participants are expected to produce five outputs each within five days for submission to Dr. Prisno, who leads a global initiative, “Achieving University Excellence through Research,” addressing global research inequity.

 

Prof. Prisno teaches Economics of Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and International Health at the University of the Philippines (Open University).  He was a Visiting Scientist at Harvard Medical School and currently holds Adjunct and Visiting Professorship at various universities in Asia.

Dr. Villaruz presents WVSU’s FY 2025 budget to DBM

Dr. Joselito Villaruz presented West Visayas State University (WVSU)’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Technical Budget to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) at Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) today, April 11, 2024.
 
The event focused on discussing and analyzing the university’s financial requirements and plans for the upcoming fiscal year.

WVSU College of Law Admission

ADMISSION POLICIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  1. Applicants to WVSU College of Law Juris Doctor (JD) Program must have obtained a bachelor’s degree in arts or sciences, or higher academic degree from an authorized and recognized higher education institution as prescribed by the Legal Education Board (LEB).
  2. The College of Law Admissions Committee, with the Dean as admitting officer, shall take into consideration the applicant’s scholastic records and abilities, entrance exam results, interview ratings and other relevant factors for admission.
  3. THE WVSU College of Law JD Program shall be a full-time mode of study to be completed in FOUR (4) YEARS.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

APPLICATION PERIOD: APRIL 8, 2024 to JUNE 7, 2024 at 5:00 PM

LAW SCHOOL QUALIFYING TEST (LSQT): June 21, 2024, Online

There are two types of applicants. Applicants must make sure under which type they belong before proceeding.

TYPE A. Applicants who do not have an Integrated University Information System (IUIS) account. Applicant who has never been enrolled in the past in any course at WVSU.

Applicants who have previously been enrolled at WVSU but do not yet have an IUIS account also belong to this category.

TYPE B. Those who have already an IUIS account because they have previously been enrolled in another course offering at WVSU, including elementary, high school. College and post-graduate course.

  2. Applicant should also submit to the WVSU College of Law office hard copies of the following documents fastened in long – sized white folder: (Incomplete documents will not be accepted for admission.)
    1. Print out of fully accomplished online application form.
    2. Photocopy of collegiate transcript of records.
    3. If graduation is not yet reflected in the transcript, a true copy of grades or a certification of candidacy for graduation (with the notarized undertaking and waiver)
    4. Two (2) recommendation letters (downloadable form) in a sealed envelope coming from:
      (1) the dean or former professor of the applicant’s last school attended; and
      (2) Any disinterested person (not a relative by consanguinity or affinity) who knows the applicant well enough to provide a true character reference.
      The recommender may also send the recommendation letter directly to [email protected]. Recommendation letters coming from the applicant’s email account will not be recognized.
    5. Proof of payment of admission fee and testing fee
  3. Applicants must pay the Admission Fee and Testing Fee (Non-refundable)
    1. Admission Fee (P300.00/applicant) will be paid directly to the WVSU Cashier’s office after securing order of payment at WVSU COL Dean’s Office.
    2. Testing fee (₱900.00/applicant) directly to Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. (CEM) prior to taking the test. This amount is inclusive of bank and other applicable charges.

Dr. Villaruz welcomes participants to the university-wide job fair

The West Visayas State University (WVSU), through the Office of Student Affairs and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Iloilo City, organized a University-wide Job Fair.
 
This event was specifically designed to cater to the career needs of WVSU’s graduating students and alumni. The occasion commenced with an opening address by Dr. Villaruz, who emphasized the significance of this event in assisting university students in finding suitable job opportunities post-graduation.

WVSU enters usurfruct agreement with LGU Lambunao and Brgy. Jayobo

West Visayas State University (WVSU), through Dr. Villaruz, signed a usufruct agreement with Brgy. Jayobo, Lambunao, today, April 3, 2024, at the Lambunao Government Center.
 
This agreement will allow them to utilize WVSU-CAF land for the construction of a gymnasium and multi-purpose hall.
 
Dr. Villaruz emphasized that this project aligns with the university’s core function of extension, benefiting the community at large.

COA holds annual audit exit conferences for WVSU main and external campuses

The Commission on Audit (COA) held Annual Audit Exit Conference on April 2, 2024 to discuss the Audit Findings of the accounts and operations of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main and External Campuses.
 
This conference held at the Research Building, ensures fair and balanced reporting process allowing the WVSU Management to present their perspective.
